An investigation into intentional homicide opened after the discovery of a body riddled with bullets

The Colmar public prosecutor’s office announced on Friday that it had opened a judicial investigation into intentional homicide after the discovery of a body with several gunshot wounds on a hiking trail. The body of a man in his fifties was discovered Thursday afternoon by a group of hikers in the town of Kintzheim (Haut-Rhin), near the very touristy Haut-Koenigsbourg castle.

“The individual, wearing hiking clothes, presented several injuries clearly linked to the use of a firearm,” underlined the Colmar public prosecutor, Jean Richert, who went to the scene.

A flagrant investigation was launched for intentional homicide and numerous investigative resources were deployed (dog team, aerial resources, etc.). An autopsy will also be carried out in the coming days. “Given the criminal classification of these facts, the Colmar public prosecutor’s office has decided to open a judicial investigation into the charge of intentional homicide,” continued Jean Richert. The police have called on anyone who may have information to come forward.
