An infected farm in Vendée, more than 12,000 turkeys slaughtered

Virological analyzes have confirmed it: an outbreak of avian influenza (H5N1) was indeed highlighted this weekend in a turkey farm in Beaufou, Vendée. In total, some 12,800 birds have had to be slaughtered since Sunday, and in priority those of the infected building, reports the prefecture of Vendée.

“Presumably, the origin of the introduction of the virus was via wild birds,” continues the prefecture in a press release. State services, and more particularly the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations (DDPP), are mobilized alongside the farmer who will be compensated for direct losses linked to the slaughter of poultry and the costs linked to disinfection. premises as well as indirect losses (…). “

Restricted zones, called protection and surveillance, have been set up within a radius of 3 and 10 km around the building concerned. This would be the first outbreak (and for the time being, the only one) detected in Vendée, while around forty farms are now infected in France, especially in the Landes.
