an infant found alive in a trash can near Saint-Etienne

A living baby was discovered in a trash can this Friday morning around 11 a.m. by a postwoman who was making her rounds in the town of Montbrison, about forty kilometers northwest of Saint-Etienne (Loire). The child was naked and locked in a plastic bag, reveals Progress. He showed signs of recent childbirth.

The postwoman was attracted by her crying, believing at first that it was a kitten. She took him out of the bag and then wrapped him in a scarf to warm him up. According to the prosecution, the infant does not show any signs of ill health. However, he was taken to the hospital for some tests.

The mother surrendered

The mother, aged 20 and of French nationality, presented herself to the gendarmerie at the beginning of the afternoon. She was taken into custody. Taken to the hospital for treatment, she has not yet been heard by the investigators, according to the gendarmerie.

An investigation for “attempted murder of a 15-year-old minor” has been opened by the Saint-Etienne prosecutor’s office, the prosecutor further indicated, after having been opened initially for “neglect of a 15-year-old minor”. She was entrusted to the research brigade of the Montbrison gendarmerie.
