an elected official from Rillieux-la-Pape threatened with death in a polling station

The first round of the presidential election was agitated, Sunday afternoon, in a polling station in Rillieux-la-Pape (Rhône). A fifty-year-old indeed presented himself by shouting the name of Eric Zemmour, “while criticizing all the other candidates, and personally filming the scene”, reports the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) of the Rhône.

The first deputy mayor (LR) of this town in the metropolis of Lyon, Julien Smati, who held this polling station, then asked him to leave, which he refused to do. The man even positioned himself in front of the ballot box to prevent several voters from voting. “He threatened the elected official with death on several occasions while insulting him”, indicates the DDSP.

The vote was interrupted on the spot for about 25 minutes and Julien Smati filed a complaint. Arrested Sunday evening and placed in police custody, the suspect, known to the police, has since recognized the outrage but not the threats. He is presented to the Lyon prosecutor’s office this Wednesday for a judgment in immediate appearance.
