An elected official accused of sexual assault by a flight attendant

An investigation was opened in New Caledonia after the filing of a complaint by a flight attendant accusing the elected separatist Jean Creugnet of sexual assault, we learned on Wednesday from the prosecution. A flight attendant from the Aircalin company filed a complaint “very recently” declaring “that she had suffered inappropriate actions [d’un] passenger,” Nouméa public prosecutor Yves Dupas told AFP.

The respondent did not comment

The complaint implicates Jean Creugnet, elected member of the National Union for Independence (UNI) and third vice-president of the congress (assembly) of New Caledonia, for acts allegedly committed on September 1 during a a Nouméa-Singapore flight.

The elected official from the Northern province was going to Paris to participate in discussions with the government on the future of the Caledonian archipelago, which were held between September 4 and 9. Contacted, Jean Creugnet did not respond to AFP’s request for reaction.
