The center of the village of Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres, near Bagnols-sur-Cèze in the Gard is currently cordoned off. The GIGN is in the process of intervening to try to arrest a man in his fifties, who is armed and entrenched in his home, rue du 11 Novembre.
This Thursday morning, at dawn, members of the gendarmerie came to arrest the man, who was banned from staying in the town because of serious violence. At the sight of the gendarmes, he immediately took refuge in his attic. Noting the presence of many weapons at his home, the gendarmes called the GIGN which arrived around 8 am.
Many residents find themselves prevented from accessing their homes and the occupants of a crèche are currently confined inside during the intervention.
A crisis unit has been opened in the town hall.
