An agreement (finally) found between Monegasque and Riviera taxis

“This is very good news, exclaims Fabrice Cavallera. From January 2023, we will enter a test phase for “everyone at home”. The president of the Nice taxi union welcomes an agreement reached “jointly” on Tuesday with the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes, the government of Monaco, the Maralpine and Monegasque representatives of the profession as well as the first adviser at the French embassy.

From next year for a trial period of one quarter, “we will no longer have taxis from Monaco that will come to load on French territory and vice versa”, he summarizes. Drivers will be able to drop off their customers but will have to leave for their work area without a passenger.

A detail at 750 euros

Another important “detail” for the president of the Nice taxi union: “We will no longer be obliged to pay the annual sticker of 750 euros, really valid from May 1 to October 31 which did not concern Monegasque drivers in France”. Since 2004, according to a press release from the government of Monaco, non-Monegasque taxis had to apply for authorization to drop off and pick up their customers in the Principality. “You had to have a lot of customers to amortize it”, underlines the one who is also president of the French federation of provincial taxis.

This agreement was to come into force “from November 1, he specifies. But some VTC and big discount [définie comme des véhicules de tourisme de luxe], have current contracts. It was therefore difficult to put everything in place in ten days”.

The services of transport systems via an application such as Uber are still totally prohibited in Monaco.
