Attacked “with iron bars”

The entourage of police chief Laurent Nuñez also indicated that he had decided not to open an administrative investigation into the police officer who took out his weapon to force back demonstrators, while his car was attacked. “There is no suspicion of professional misconduct” on the part of the official, it was added. “The police chief called each of the officials [qui se trouvaient dans le véhicule pris à partie] to congratulate them and express their support,” added the entourage.

On Saturday, during this demonstration starting from the Gare du Nord, a police car, stuck in traffic, was attacked “with an iron bar”, according to the police headquarters, by several individuals dressed in black. One of the police officers then briefly got out of the vehicle, gun in hand, to keep the demonstrators at bay.

An intervention by other police officers then “made it possible to stop the action and shelter” the police officers present in the vehicle, the prefecture explained. Four police officers were in the vehicle and three of them were “slightly injured” in the neck, Laurent Nuñez said on Saturday.
