Amy Winehouse’s family has auctioned off numerous items of clothing from the late singer’s estate – and raised millions in the process. The dress alone that Winehouse wore at their last concert brought in a surprising amount.

Amy Winehouse’s last stage dress was typical of the singer: a striking pattern, extremely short cut, green and shiny black. She wore it in June 2011 to a concert in Belgrade, Serbia, and had her hair dyed to match the outfit. But the performance turned into a disaster: Winehouse slurred, staggered and finally left the stage prematurely. A good month later, the singer died of alcohol poisoning. She was only 27 years old. Now the dress has been auctioned along with hundreds of other items of clothing from her estate in Beverly Hills. And achieved a surprisingly high sum.

The value of the dress was estimated at 15,000 euros, but it went under the hammer for a lot more: a fan paid over 240,000 dollars for it. The outfit was one of eleven new designs that Winehouse and her stylist and friend Naomi Parry had created for an upcoming European tour. However, the tour was canceled after the debacle in Serbia. “When I see this dress, I feel a great sadness,” says Parry today. Winehouse had just come back from withdrawal at the time. “The dress should be a new beginning, so it should move forward. She was just getting better,” said Parry.

Proceeds go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation

In addition to this dress, one of the most sought-after items at the auction was a heart-shaped handbag made of red leather by Moschino, which Amy Winehouse wore at the Brit Awards 2007. At that time she received several awards. The bag went for over $ 200,000. A flame print dress by Dolce & Gabbana found new owners for $ 150,000, and several pink ballerinas went for up to $ 19,000. In total, the Winehouse family made over four million dollars.

Amy Winehouse’s parents want to donate the proceeds to the foundation they set up on behalf of their daughter. The Amy Winehouse Foundation supports young people in the fight against addictions. Many of the outfits from the auction will still be on view in an exhibition at the London Design Museum from November 26th before they come to their new owners.
