A pool of water ruptures, diving towers collapse, seven people are injured: an accident clouded the holiday mood at Europa-Park. Now the operation should continue as usual – with one exception.

The park is open as planned.

The day before, a pool of water broke during the “Retorno dos Piratas” acrobat show. Jump towers attached to it collapsed. The water from the basin flowed into the lake of “Atlantica SuperSplash”, parts of the scenery floated in the water, the boats stood still for the time being.

According to the police, five artists and two visitors were injured in the incident. Three acrobats were taken to the hospital to have their injuries checked. Park and police spokeswomen were initially unable to say how they were doing on Tuesday. In the evening, the police also announced that the background to the accident had yet to be determined.

The show “Retorno dos Piratas” will be canceled until further notice. There, athletes jumped from a height of up to 25 meters into a 3.20 meter deep water basin. Ten international athletes showed their skills in extreme and synchronized jumps several times a day during the 20-minute show. “Retorno dos Piratas” started at the end of May and was supposed to thrill the audience until September 3rd. According to the spokeswoman, the park has been working with the artists for years.

During the summer season, Europa-Park is open daily from 9 a.m. to at least 6 p.m. Last year, more than six million people came to the facility with roller coasters and other attractions near the French border – a record.
