On her first day on the stand, Amber Heard opened up about Johnny Depp’s contradictory behavior in their relationship.

For the first time in the US legal battle between Amber Heard (36) and Johnny Depp (58), which has now lasted around two weeks, the actress has taken the witness stand. In her statements, Heard described among other things, how she once fell in love with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star and how happy she was with him at first. At the beginning of their relationship, Depp was very caring and loving towards her. Which is also why she tied the knot with Depp in 2015.

Depp also showered her parents with gifts and affection. “I think my father would have gladly married him if I hadn’t done it myself.” But gradually the actor’s flawless facade crumbled.

She remembers the first hit

It initially started with Depp developing a dangerous kind of jealousy. For example, when she dressed up for a casting. In several such moments, he called her a “whore” or accused her of infidelities.

The first physical attack on her came for a different reason. One day she asked him about the meaning of one of his tattoos. Thinking his answer was a joke, she started laughing. This made him so angry that he is said to have hit her several times in the face.

At first she didn’t process this attack, didn’t want to admit it. “I didn’t want that to be reality” – and that the man she loves really just did that to her. Depp immediately apologized for the incident and quarreled with himself. He thought he had “defeated the monster, I thought I locked the bastard away,” Heard quoted as saying. He then promised her almost poetically that he would rather cut off his hand than cause her pain again. And she wanted to believe him.

That’s what the process is about

But all too soon, she became increasingly aware that her husband was not in control. His behavior varied accordingly, depending on which drugs he had consumed: “Johnny on speed is someone else than Johnny on opiates, and Johnny on opiates is someone else than cocaine Johnny.”

Johnny Depp has sued Amber Heard for $50 million (€46 million) over a 2018 post she published in the Washington Post. In it, she claimed to be a victim of domestic violence. She did not mention her ex-husband by name. Depp claims the post nonetheless ruined his career, damaged his reputation and cost him a lot of money as a result. Heard is said to have filed a $100 million counterclaim against her ex, according to Variety.
