The German ambassador to Israel, Seibert, has called on all Germans on site to follow the instructions of the security authorities. Iran’s drone shoot-down was “a direct attack like never before.”

After the start of the Iranian air strike on Israel, the German ambassador to Israel, Steffen Seibert, called on all Germans on site to follow the authorities’ instructions. “A direct attack like never before: Iranian drones approaching Israel and there can be more to come,” wrote Seibert in the online service X. “I urge all German compatriots to follow the instructions of the Home Front Command and the local authorities for your safety .”

Embassy staff have left Iran

In Iran, the relatives of German embassy employees have now left the country. Additional security precautions were also taken to protect the German embassies in Tehran and Tel Aviv.

The Foreign Office in Berlin had previously reiterated its call for Germans to leave Iran. The ministry also referred to the travel warning for Iran, Israel and the Palestinian territories. “The current tensions in the region, particularly between Israel and Iran, pose the risk of a sudden escalation,” the Foreign Office said on its website. Other countries such as France have also warned their citizens against traveling to the region.
