Returning an order should be even easier for the shipping giant Amazon from October. Even a package is then no longer required.

Online trade has not only been booming since the pandemic: Being able to order products, clothing and even groceries quickly and conveniently to your home is enormously attractive for many customers. If you don’t like something, just send it back. This should soon be even easier for the online giant Amazon.

Together with the most important German shipping company DHL, Amazon wants to make returns even easier for customers, reports “paket.da”, citing internally sent notifications for DHL branch operators. The program is therefore called “Retoure Unpacked”. The start date is October 10th. Because the branches would have to be equipped first, an announcement was planned “just beforehand”, the e-mail said.

Amazon returns easier in the future

According to the information materials, the effort for customers is significantly reduced. Instead of a ready-packaged package, in future they will only have to hand in the product they have bought, the original packaging will suffice. In the branch, the return is then packed in a shipping envelope provided by DHL and Amazon. You no longer have to print out a label, a QR code on your smartphone is sufficient. The returns should then be stored in the branch for up to seven days and picked up in one fell swoop, the Mail informs the branch operator. The envelopes are to be delivered to the branches from the end of August.

Some questions remain unanswered. Since the letter primarily relates to the processes in the branch, it is not clear when Amazon will consider the return to have been received. This is particularly important for the refund of the purchase price. It remains to be seen whether the refund will only be made when it arrives at the Amazon warehouse or whether the delivery to DHL will suffice.

In addition, the offer may not apply to all products. At UPS, for example, with which Amazon has been offering unpackaged returns for a long time, products that are too large and heavy are not accepted via the program. They have to be packed by the customer as before and sent using the classic shipping method.
