Amazon Prime Video honors the career of NBA superstar Allen Iverson with a new documentary – produced by ex-colleague Shaquille O’Neal.

Basketball fans can look forward to a very special sports documentary: Former NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal (52), who is himself one of the best basketball players of all time, is filming a documentary about his former colleague and rival for Amazon Prime Video Allen Iverson (48). The streaming service announced this in a press release on Friday. Both former NBA stars are clearly looking forward to working together.

Shaq on Iverson: “Allen was a pioneer”

“I’m ready to tell my story my way, authentically and uncompromisingly. I’m excited to show people a side of me they’ve never seen before,” Iverson said of the project. “Allen was a pioneer in the world of sports and entertainment,” says Shaquille O’Neal, who will produce the film. “His cultural impact was greater than just basketball and this documentary seeks to properly honor his legacy.”

The as yet untitled film documents the life of the basketball legend. Allen Iverson was active in the NBA from 1996 to 2009, most of that time with the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite his comparatively small height of 1.83 meters, he was one of the best players of his time as a fast and agile guard. The new documentary will shed light on his beginnings and roots in Hampton, Virginia, as well as his rise in the NBA.

Among other things, intimate interviews with his family, friends, NBA colleagues and coaches will be shown. Iverson himself shows a reflected side of his current self and takes the audience on a journey through his eventful past to the present, in which he becomes aware of his cultural influence – long after his time as a player is over .

Another NBA great is also involved in the current Iverson project: Stephen Curry (36). The Golden State Warriors icon and his company Unanimous Media are also involved. “We are excited to join forces with Prime Video, Shaquille O’Neal and Jersey Legends to tell the incredible story of Allen Iverson, a revolutionary figure who made a huge impact on and off the court,” Stephen Curry and filmmaker Erick Peyton said in a statement .
