Amazon abandons cashierless supermarkets with cameras – economy

Cameras, sensors, an app on the cell phone – but no cash registers. Amazon wanted to shake up stationary retail. In reality, people controlled the purchases in the background. Not anymore.

The slogan actually said it all: “Just walk out”. Just walk out and your purchase is paid for, without having to wait in line at the checkout. Making everything super easy for customers, almost like on the Amazon website or app, has always been the company’s goal. Except that in stationary Amazon stores, cameras and sensors should record what customers put in their shopping carts rather than mouse clicks. In the real ones, not the virtual ones.
