Amandine Henry’s update on her situation and her sick leave

In a message posted Wednesday on her social networks, Amandine Henry clarifies things about her situation in Lyon and confirms that she has taken sick leave “for personal reasons”.

It’s a curious end to the adventure. As reported Tuesday by the newspaper Progress and confirmed by RMC Sport, Amandine Henry is on sick leave, against a backdrop of conflict with OL. Tied to his club until June, the French international (33) has been asking for several weeks to be released from his last months of contract in order to join the club of Angel City, California. In a long message posted this Wednesday on her social networks, she wanted to clarify her situation.

“It is true that not having had an offer from OL to extend the adventure in the club which allowed me to access a prize list which I could not have expected even in my wildest dreams, and end my career there, I took the liberty of asking my management to agree to release me a little earlier, a request accepted by the club after the hard elimination against Chelsea (at the end of March)”, she specifies.

“This sick leave is good for personal reasons”

And to add: “Contrary to what I have read, the reason why I took this step is above all because I have been made to understand in recent months that the club was not counting on me, neither to finish the season, nor to finish my career there! They also took care to specify to me that if the club wanted to keep me it was mainly for image issues vis-à-vis my partners and our opponents, without necessarily having the intention of making me play. In view of this decision, which saddens me since I spent 16 extraordinary years in Lyon, I thought that it would perhaps be more judicious to complete my convalescence to join a new project as soon as possible, and thus give me every chance of being able, perhaps, to wear this blue jersey again which is so close to my heart.”

Victim at the beginning of March of a sprained left knee with damage to the internal lateral ligament, Henry was initially supposed to miss six weeks of competition, but has still not resumed. Her club future is now unclear, less than three months from the World Cup that she hopes to play with Hervé Renard’s Bleues.

“I want to make it clear that even if I was disappointed, I understand and respect the club’s decision to want to keep me until the end of my contract! Regarding my current status, and even if I should not have to m Justify because it concerns my private life, I specify that this sick leave is for personal reasons, and not for convenience in relation to this sporting episode. If I have decided to respond to what I hear today it’s because I’m portrayed as a person that I’m absolutely not!”, insists the player.

From now on, his objective is to quickly return to the pitch to “help” his team win the championship (OL are leading the women’s D1 with a point lead over PSG, editor’s note) and the Coupe de France (final Lyon-Paris on May 13).
