After the death of her famous father Meat Loaf, his daughter Amanda Aday reminisces about life behind the scenes.

Meat Loaf’s (1947-2022) daughter, Amanda Aday, 41, commemorates her late father. The rocker, who was born Marvin Lee Aday, died on Thursday (January 20) aged 74. His last hours were with his wife Deborah, daughters Amanda and Pearl, 47, and several close friends, according to his agent. Daughter Amanda told “People” magazine nowwhat it was like growing up with the musician. She traveled the world with her father. The ‘Bat Out of Hell’ hitmaker’s daughter recalls touring arenas, growing up on tour buses and “all these amazing experiences.” However, when her father was at home, he was “just dad” and “no longer a meat loaf”.

Meat Loaf was a typical father

Outside of his public role, he was a typical father. From directing school plays to coaching their softball teams, he has been involved in his children’s lives. “If we didn’t get good grades, we got grounded and all that stuff,” Aday said. It was important to Meat Loaf that his daughters were grounded in their homes. Christmas was the musician’s favorite season. “He stayed up all night building train sets around the Christmas tree,” recalls his now-adult daughter.

Especially in the 1980s, her father “worked really hard”. That is one of her earliest memories. In 1993, when daughter Amanda was 13, “Anything For Love” reached number one on the charts. “I remember we were in the hotel room and my mom just started crying and my dad just started crying and I was standing there and I was like, ‘What? What is this? What are you doing?'” says Aday.

Meat Loaf didn’t want to be called a “rock star”.

One expression the singer hated, according to his daughter, was “rock star.” He was a singer and actor, but “not a legend”.

Amanda Aday hopes her dad will be remembered for all his talents. “He was a singer, he was an actor, he was a father, a husband, he was a grandpa,” she explains. “To my nephew, he was Papa Meat. He was everything.” The 41-year-old was “very grateful” that she and her sister were able to see their father again before he died.
