Legendary music producer Jerry Moss dies
It all started in a garage in Hollywood. Starting capital: 200 dollars. And soon Jerry Moss, together with Herb Alpert, was to look after famous artists such as Cat Stevens or Joe Cocker.
The American music producer Jerry Moss, who founded the legendary label “A&M Records” with trumpeter Herb Alpert in the 1960s, is dead. He died peacefully in his home in Bel Air, California, his family said, according to the “Los Angeles Times” and other US media. Moss lived to be 88 years old.
Alpert (88) and Moss founded “A&M” Records in a garage in Hollywood in 1962 with a starting capital of 200 dollars. They soon signed artists like Cat Stevens, Carpenters, Joe Cocker, Carole King, Styx, The Police and Supertramp.
They later worked with Janet Jackson, Bryan Adams, Suzanne Vega and Sheryl Crow. In 1989, the two sold the label to the Polygram group for almost $500 million. In 2006, Moss and Alpert were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
