Altomünster: Fire in refugee accommodation – Dachau

On Saturday morning at around 5.15 a.m., a fire broke out in an unoccupied room in the refugee accommodation in Schmarnzell, the cause of the fire is still unclear, the Fürstenfeldbruck criminal police are investigating. According to the first estimates, the property damage is around 50,000 euros, according to the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria North.

Around a dozen residents were in the property at the time of the fire, police said. Most of them were able to leave the building on their own because the smoke detector in the accommodation went off. However, one resident tried to extinguish the fire himself, was slightly injured and suffered from mild smoke inhalation. When the fire brigade arrived, the room was already in full fire, residents were still missing, reports the Dachau district fire inspection.

A squad wearing heavy respiratory protection extinguished the fire within half an hour and also rescued two residents outside. The Altomünster, Randelsried and Tandern fire brigades then checked the house for hidden embers, ventilated it and boarded up the damaged windows. Their work lasted around four hours. Since parts of the building are no longer habitable for the time being, the fire brigade brought the people affected to alternative accommodation in consultation with the district office. Fire investigators will examine the accommodation in Schmarnzell on Monday.
