Germany’s speed hopes continue to struggle with their form. Kira Weidle also clearly missed the top ten in the second descent from Crans Montana. The currently best ski racer is expanding her lead.

Ski racer Kira Weidle suffered another setback in Crans Montana. The Starnberg woman finished 18th in the second downhill run of the weekend in Switzerland. She was 2.26 seconds behind the Italian winner Marta Bassino. In the race on Friday, Weidle only came 22nd.

Local hero Lara Gut-Behrami, who had won the day before, came third this time and extended her lead in the overall World Cup ahead of the American Mikaela Shiffrin, who was still missing due to injury. Bassino’s teammate Federica Brignone came second.

“I didn’t really get going and couldn’t generate any speed,” Weidle, who had seemed extremely hesitant on the slopes, told ZDF. The 2021 World Cup runner-up currently obviously lacks the necessary self-confidence to be able to attack at the front. She has only finished in the top ten four times this winter. “We’ll keep looking. I’ll try everything,” explained the 27-year-old. “Hopefully it will open again at some point.”

Weidle’s teammate Katrin Hirtl-Stanggaßinger took 36th place, Emma Aicher was eliminated, as so often this season. There is another Super-G coming up in Crans Montana on Sunday.
