German ski racers defeated in their first home World Cup

The German trio has nothing to do with the top places at the first Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A Frenchman is surprisingly on the verge of his first World Cup victory.
The struggling speed team of the German ski team also lagged behind in the first of the two home races this weekend. Simon Jocher, Romed Baumann and Andreas Sander finished in the Super-G Garmisch-Partenkirchen finished 17th, 20th and 33rd after 42 starters.
The Frenchman Nils Allegre was surprisingly in the lead. The 30-year-old has never been on a World Cup podium before in his career. Second was the Italian Guglielmo Bosca, third was the Swiss Loic Meillard. The Swiss overall World Cup leader Marco Odermatt was in fourth place, the French shooting star Cyprien Sarrazin in tenth place.
His performance was “very disappointing again,” said Sander. However, the slope also suffered from the mild temperatures. On Sunday there is another Super-G on the legendary Kandahar. It will be the last race for 35-year-old Josef Ferstl, who is ending his career.
