Alpine skiing: Daniel Yule writes skiing history in the slalom – Swiss jumps from 30th place to victory in Chamonix

Even a lead of 1.93 seconds was not enough for French half-time leader Noël to win; the local hero had to admit defeat in front of his home crowd.

For Linus Straßer, who had triumphed in Kitzbühel and Schladming, the campaign in the French Alps turned out to be a disappointing performance.

Although the DSV athlete made up three places in the decision despite the difficult conditions, 14th place is anything but satisfactory for the runner-up in the discipline rankings.

Feller extended his lead in the fight for the small crystal ball. The Austrian now has 490 points, Straßer is 164 points behind. Yule made a big leap forward with his seventh World Cup victory, he is only 41 points behind Straßer.

Disappointment in Chamonix: Straßer misses top 10

Straßer is frustrated – Yule knows how lucky he is

“It’s just Chamonix, it feels the same every year,” said Straßer afterwards, frustrated by the circumstances.

Yule, on the other hand, could hardly believe his luck at first, but finally found the right words in the official winner’s interview.

“I was a bit lucky,” said the 30-year-old, meaning the better piste conditions at the start of the second round. “But I also managed an incredible run,” he added. “Wow, that’s incredible. It was a long way down – but a beautiful one.”

Because he was sure he would miss the final, he had “already packed my things and wanted to go back to the hotel.” But he made it into the top 30 by 0.05 seconds and then to the top.

Sebastian Holzmann retired in the seventh race for the first time this winter. Anton Tremmel, Fabian Himmelsbach and Linus Witte also missed the second round.
