The Norwegian ski racer Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has won the legendary downhill run on the Streif in Kitzbühel for the second time in his career. The speed specialist, who started with a broken hand on the most demanding track in the world, was 0.67 seconds ahead of French veteran Johan Clarey on Saturday. Third was the American Travis Ganong (+0.95). World champion and yesterday’s winner Vincent Kriechmayr from Austria finished fifth. Like the day before, the German drivers missed out on a top position, but showed a small increase in performance.
Romed Baumann was the best DSV athlete in eighth place and was three places ahead of his teammate Josef Ferstl. Andreas Sander as 19th and Dominik Schwaiger as 37th fell short of expectations. Thomas Dreßen crashed, retired and criticized the World Federation’s decision not to shorten the route due to poor visibility. On the Streif, athletes reach top speeds of 140 km/h. The maximum gradient is 85 percent, the jumps go up to 80 meters. A slalom is scheduled for the technicians around Linus Straßer in Kitzbühel on Sunday.
