Bad news for coach Julian Nagelsmann: Full-back Alphonso Davies will be out for several weeks due to heart muscle inflammation. It is unclear whether the disease is a consequence of Covid-19.

First he was missing because of Covid-19, now he may be struggling with a secondary disease: Alphonso Davies will be absent from FC Bayern Munich for a longer period of time due to heart muscle inflammation. “He’s out for the time being and won’t be available for the next few weeks,” said coach Julian Nagelsmann on Friday. The Munich coach said that the illness was “not that dramatic”. When examining the corona infection, however, signs of heart muscle inflammation were found. “Nevertheless, it has to heal and that will definitely take a while,” said Nagelsmann.

Alphonso Davies infection “modest to crappy”

The coach was unable to say whether the myocarditis was a result of the corona virus. But of course there is a probability, although the cause is currently irrelevant. “He’s got it – it’s modest to crappy to crappy,” said the 34-year-old.

Nagelsmann had to do without a total of 13 professionals when the football year got off to a bad start with the 2-1 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Among them were nine players around Captain Manuel Neuer who had recently tested positive. The goalkeeper is one of the players returning in Saturday’s away game against 1. FC Köln. Also back in the squad are Dayot Upamecano, Omar Richards, Leroy Sané, Tanguy Nianzou and Corentin Tolisso.
