Yellow was Marjorie’s favorite color. Nearly a thousand people, dressed in yellow and in a T-shirt with the effigy of Marjorie, walked in the streets of Ivry-sur-Seine on Saturday in tribute to the 17-year-old girl fatally stabbed last week in this town of Val-de-Marne.
At the head of the procession, carrying a banner “Marjorie, you will stay in our hearts”, the family of the teenager and, in the crowd, many inhabitants of the surroundings and personalities such as Patrick Karam, vice-president of the Ile Region -from France, or Assama Traoré, sister of Adama. The crowd in yellow – Marjorie’s favorite color – marched from the town hall to the city of Pierre and Marie Curie, site of the murder, where the young girl was stabbed in the chest by a 14-year-old on May 14.
“In a few seconds, and for nothing, his whole life changed”
According to testimonies collected by AFP, the suspect – arrested and indicted for murder – “had created a Snapchat group the same morning” targeting the victim’s little sister. “Marjorie did not appreciate that we talk badly about her little sister. She came to the bottom of the tower, “where the suspect’s father lives, and” hit him. The teenager would then go up to his home to grab a knife, with which he stabbed Marjorie in the chest.
“My daughter was killed. Why ? I still cannot understand ”, declared Odile Gentil, his mother, at the end of the walk. “In a few seconds, and for nothing, her whole life changed”, moved, tears in her voice, Cynthia, one of her sisters. The young woman added to have a thought for “the other bereaved families”, that of Alysha, a 14-year-old schoolgirl victim of harassment found drowned in the Val-d’Oise in March or that of Mattéo, a 17-year-old teenager killed on Tuesday in the Val-de-Marne.
“We want peace”
“It must change, that it stops, because tomorrow, whose turn? “, Wondered again the mother of the victim, who addressed the parents:” love your children, take care of your children, talk with them, dance with them, because the weekend before, I was dancing with Marjorie at home ”. “We want peace. We ask you never to give in to revenge, ”Cynthia urged.
Several teenagers have been killed recently in Ile-de-France in cases related to the phenomena of online harassment or clashes between gangs of young rivals.
