Friedrich Merz, to make this clear, thinks little or nothing of the new Wagenknecht party. “No one needs this mixture of socialism and nationalism in this country,” he told the German Press Agency a few days ago. But perhaps it is more the case that the CDU chairman in particular does not need any new competition in the bourgeois-conservative camp. One thing is certain: Merz will no longer be able to stop the founding of Sahra Wagenknecht’s party, which is still somewhat difficult to grasp ideologically. It will be formally launched in Berlin next Monday, including a press conference. The actual founding party conference is planned for January 27th in a former Berlin cinema.
