Two people died in a rear-end collision with a trailer truck, a heavy-duty transporter and its escort vehicle on the A9 near Allersberg in the Roth district. The heavy-duty transporter and the escort vehicle were standing on the hard shoulder because of a breakdown when the semitrailer hit the vehicle late on Wednesday evening, the police said on Thursday.
The driver’s cab of the semi-trailer was almost pulverized due to the impact between the Allersberg and Feucht junctions. The two drivers of the escort vehicle and the driving trailer died at the scene of the accident.
The salvage work was difficult, among other things because the trailer truck loaded with fruit was lying on its side, according to a police spokesman. The A9 in the direction of Nuremberg is expected to remain closed until Thursday afternoon.
