After allegations of sexual assaults recently became public in the Hessian Left Party, other suspected victims have now spoken out. They also come from other national associations. There has already been criticism of the party’s plans to come to terms with the past.
Nfter the allegations of sexual assaults became known among the Hessian left-wingers, other suspected victims contacted the Left Youth Solid, which is affiliated with the party. Solid federal spokeswoman Sarah Dubiel spoke on Sunday at the request of more than 20 other affected people from several state associations. “Spiegel Online” had previously reported on the other suspected cases.
“The mirror‘ had made suspected cases of sexualized violence in the Hessian Left Party public on Friday. There are various documents with references to “suspected border crossings, abuse of power and a toxic macho culture,” wrote the news magazine after talking to ten women and men.
The executive state board in Hesse then declared that it would take the allegations very seriously. The Federal Chairwoman Janine Wissler, former parliamentary group leader in the Hessian state parliament, also opposed the fact that “I am accused of having protected anyone”.
According to the executive state board, the Hessian left was aware of the allegations from the end of November 2021. Since then, the party has begun “to work through this at all levels”. As a further step in processing, the Hessian state association wants to find “neutral” shop stewards, as he explained on Saturday. These should not hold any offices or functions in the party. The search should be completed after Easter.
The announcement came too late and was only preventive, Dubiel criticized: “This will not change anything in the current cases.” Professionally trained and qualified contact persons are required. “The party now has to spend money, both for processing and for contact persons for potential further cases,” Dubiel demanded.
