Allegation of bodily harm: District court imposes penalty order against Zverev – Sport

Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev is ordered to pay a fine of 450,000 euros for bodily harm. A judicial spokeswoman said on Tuesday that the Tiergarten district court had imposed a corresponding penalty order against the professional athlete. Zverev rejects the accusation.

The court followed the request of the Berlin public prosecutor’s office, which had requested a fine of 90 daily rates of 5,000 euros each. The 26-year-old is accused of physically abusing a woman during an argument in Berlin in May 2020. The court spokeswoman said Zverev had lodged an objection against the penalty order. The responsible department of the district court will therefore hear those involved in the proceedings again. The spokeswoman explained that the trial would then probably take place. The woman who was allegedly injured appears as a co-plaintiff in the proceedings.

Zverev is presumed innocent until he is legally convicted. The court also pointed this out in its communication. Zverev’s lawyers published on Tuesday a press release, in which they again rejected the allegations and argued that the allegations had already been refuted by a forensic medical report. Zverev’s lawyers cite defense lawyers, according to whom the proceedings would suffer from “serious procedural violations” and announced that Alexander Zverev would take action against it.

Zverev himself spoke publicly about the accusation for the first time in July at the tournament in Hamburg. At that time he said: “From my side: I completely reject the allegations. My lawyers are taking care of the matter. I won’t say anything more about it.”
