ALL Tesla charging stations are illegal
There are more than 1800 Tesla charging stations for e-cars in Germany – all of them are illegal.
This is shown by a study of the “ICT for Electromobility” funding project. Accordingly, and according to the manufacturer’s information, the electric filling stations do not comply with German calibration law, as the “Handelsblatt” reported on Thursday.
The problem: the charging stations do not have a meter. Customers therefore do not know exactly how much electricity is being billed. But it is precisely this counter that is required by German law.
“It is to be expected that the retrofitting process for fast-charging infrastructure will drag on until the end of 2023,” said Katharina Boesche from IKT in the newspaper.
The authorities are aware of the illegal charging stations – and apparently don’t care: “The illegal operation is not hindered and not sanctioned,” said the head of the Bavarian State Office for Weights and Measures, Thomas Weberpals, the “Handelsblatt”.
“It was and is being worked towards a lawful state,” said the Berlin-Brandenburg State Office for Measurement and Calibration, which is responsible for Tesla’s retrofit.
Tesla announces electric trucks
Most recently, Tesla boss Elon Musk (51) announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he would deliver the first electric semi-trailers by the end of the year. There was talk of an electric truck with a range of around 800 kilometers. He gave no further details such as quantities. According to Musk’s earlier statements, the production of the Tesla Semi semi-trailer is expected for the coming year.
The vehicle was presented by Musk at the end of 2017 and production was then planned for 2019. After that, however, Tesla preferred to use the existing capacities in battery production for passenger cars.
Tesla promises lower costs than running conventional diesel trucks thanks to cheap electricity at its dedicated fast charging stations in the US and easier maintenance, among other things. Among those interested are logistics services such as Fedex, DHL and UPS as well as the supermarket giant Walmart. There should also be a version with a range of around 480 kilometers.
