Alexander Hoffmann, new parliamentary managing director of the CSU regional group – politics

Alexander Dobrindt managed the surprise. There had been speculation for months about who would become the CSU’s new number two in Berlin behind the regional group leader. Stefan Müller, the previous parliamentary managing director, announced his withdrawal from politics in December – he will become president of the Bavarian Cooperative Association in the summer. The office of Parliamentary Manager (PGF) is seen as a stepping stone to higher things; many people later became Federal Ministers or at least State Secretary. So there was no shortage of interested parties. However, one name did not play a role in all the speculation: Alexander Hoffmann. Nevertheless, Hoffmann was elected as the new PGF on Monday evening, with 38 of the 39 valid votes. The CSU in the Bundestag is now led by two Alexanders.
