Alerts at Baïnes, maximum risk for swimming on the South-West coast

Watch your children, stay vigilant, don’t take risks this Sunday and Monday on the beaches of the Atlantic coast. These two days are in fact classified as “at maximum risk” of baïnes currents, reports the newspaper South West according to information from the operational center of the Ministry of the Interior. The Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Landes, Gironde and Charente-Maritime are directly concerned.

As a reminder, the baïnes are a water hole that forms in the sand. At low tide, they are very popular with children. When the tide rises and covers the bay, the water evacuates quickly and violently out to sea.

These sea currents can be dangerous, particularly strong and powerful and can easily sweep a person out to sea. Every year, swimmers are swept away and drown.
