Alert messages and sirens at the TotalEnergies refinery

The alarm systems of the TotalEnergies refinery from Donges (Loire-Atlantique), near Saint-Nazaire, will ring out this Thursday. It will be the same for the civil security siren of Montoir-de-Bretagne. Alert messages will also be sent to the mobile phones of people in neighboring communities. Enough to ask a lot of questions given the sensitive industrial activities carried out in the sector.

Don’t panic, it will be a civil security exercise “industrial risk” intended to test the refinery’s Special Intervention Plan (PPI), warns the Loire-Atlantique prefecture. The test should be triggered between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. “No action is expected from the population,” specifies the prefecture.

The TotalEnergies refinery in Donges is one of the largest French refineries, the only one located on the Atlantic coast. It employs just over 600 employees, not counting external stakeholders.

On November 13, alert messages had already been sent by SMS in Loire-Atlantique as part of a vast exercise to prepare for episodes of violent storms in schools.
