Aleix Espargaró: pain, decision on Sunday / MotoGP

Concerns in the Aprilia camp: Because Aleix Espargaró is complaining of increasing pain in his right foot after the hard FP4 crash, his participation in tomorrow’s MotoGP race at Silverstone is at risk.

Up to the FP3 best time Everything went according to plan for Aleix Espargaró, but in FP4 the World Championship runner-up suffered a severe setback: On the hard rear tire, he was thrown off his RS-GP with a highside in the fast turn 12 on the third lap. The 33-year-old Spaniard initially remained lying down, supported by helpers, he was brought to the Medical Center a little later. The right ankle in particular seemed to be damaged, but fortunately the first all-clear was sounded: no broken bones were found.

Thus, the Las Termas winner got the clearance for a participation in Q2, limping to his Aprilia and surprising with his heroic performance in the second run as he became the first ever MotoGP rider to set a 1’57 on the 5.9km Silverstone circuit. In the end, Aleix Espargaró secured sixth place on the grid, just two places behind championship leader Fabio Quartararo, who, as is well known, has to serve a long-lap penalty in tomorrow’s 20-lap race.

However, Aleix Espargaró complains of severe pain. His team canceled all of his appointments on Saturday afternoon. Espargaró must rest and his situation will be reassessed on Sunday, the spokesman said. If the pain increases in the next few hours, the race participation of the World Cup runners-up is at risk, Aprilia admitted in a statement.

In it, Aleix himself spoke briefly: “The fall was unfavorable. I felt good on the bike, I was pushing and the highside was pretty intense. The pain is severe and increasing, with the team and the doctors we decided to rest until tomorrow and assess the situation after the warm-up. Of course I’ll do everything to get out on track, but because it’s a part of the body that takes a lot of pressure when driving, we’ll have to see if it’s possible.”
