Alec Baldwin spoke for the first time after the fatal accident on the set of the western “Rust”. He would have thought it was next to impossible that something like this would ever happen.

After the fatal shot at a camerawoman while filming, US actor Alec Baldwin has classified the probability of such an accident at “one in a trillion”. Baldwin spoke to journalists for the first time since the firearms accident on Saturday when he was with his wife Hilaria in Manchester, Vermont. He had previously expressed his deepest regret over the gun accident on Twitter.

Hollywood star Baldwin apparently accidentally shot camerawoman Halyna Hutchins while filming the western “Rust” in Santa Fe when he was firing a prop weapon loaded with live ammunition during a rehearsal. The 42-year-old died in hospital shortly after the incident. Director Joel Souza was hit in the shoulder and injured.

Baldwin for better control of guns when shooting a movie

“She was my family,” said Baldwin, looking at Hutchins, according to the TMZ website. “There are accidents on film sets every now and then, but not one like this one.” On the day of his arrival in Santa Fe, he had invited Hutchins and director Souza to dinner, Baldwin said. “We were a very, very well-coordinated team that made a movie together, and then this terrible event happened.”

Baldwin supported calls for better control of weapons during filming. But he didn’t want to comment on whether he would ever make another film with guns. In any case, the production of “Rust”, which was stopped immediately after the accident, will not be resumed, he said.

In addition to starring in the film, Baldwin was also a producer on the flick. After the fatal shot, assistant director Dave Halls admitted not checking all the bullets in the revolver’s drum before handing it over to Baldwin with assurance that the gun was safe.
