Halyna Hutchins’ husband gives his first TV interview since the ‘Rust’ tragedy. In it, he explains how “angry” he is at Alec Baldwin.

On Thursday (February 24), the US broadcaster NBC will broadcast Halyna Hutchins’ widower Matthew Hutchins’ first TV interview after the “Rust” tragedy on the “Today” show. In a preview clip some excerpts of the conversation with moderator Hoda Kotb (57) can already be seen. Camerawoman Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021) was fatally injured during rehearsals on the set of the western “Rust” in October 2021. Actor Alec Baldwin (63) is said to have fired a gun that was allegedly accidentally loaded.

In the “Today” show, Matthew Hutchins expresses, among other things, his anger at Baldwin’s TV interview, which he gave George Stephanopoulos in December from “ABC News” had given. In it, the actor said, among other things, “I have a feeling that someone is responsible for what happened and I can’t say who it is, but I know I’m not.”

“The idea that the person holding the gun and triggering it is not responsible is absurd to me,” Matthew Hutchins said. Seeing Baldwin in the TV interview made him “so angry”. “I was just so angry that he spoke so publicly and in such detail about her death and then took no responsibility after just describing how he killed her.”

“Gun safety wasn’t the only problem”

Baldwin’s descriptions “sounded as if he were the victim”. He “shifted the responsibility onto others” and cried. “Should we really feel sorry for you, Mr. Baldwin?” asked the widower afterwards.

In mid-February, it was announced that Halyna Hutchins’ relatives had filed a lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and other people and production companies. “Gun safety wasn’t the only issue at this location,” says Matthew Hutchins on the Today show. “There have been a number of industry standards that have not been met and there are multiple responsible parties.”
