After the shocking death of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins while shooting the western “Rust” with Alec Baldwin, the Hollywood star appeared in front of the cameras for the first time. He said of Hutchins: “She was my friend”.
Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria can clearly see the tension: For the first time after the death of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins on the set of his western film “Rust”, the Hollywood star answered questions publicly on Saturday. “She was my friend. The day I got to Santa Fe to start filming, I took her out to dinner with Joel, the director,” Baldwin said of the 42-year-old victim to paparazzi on The edge of a road in the US state of Vermont.

Hutchins died after Baldwin fired a prop gun on the set of his film. “Accidents happen every now and then on film sets, but not like here. This is a one-off incident.” The 63-year-old supported calls for better control of weapons during filming. But he didn’t want to comment on whether he would ever make another film with guns. The production of “Rust”, which was stopped immediately after the accident, would also not be resumed, he said.
In the video, the actor criticized the paparazzi for following him and his family – his children were sitting in the car and crying because of it. Baldwin’s wife got upset when one of the questioners couldn’t remember Hutchin’s name. “Her name is Halyna,” explained Hilaria. “If you spend so much time waiting for us, you should know her name.”

Sheriff banned Baldwin from disclosure

In the incident during the shooting of the low-budget western “Rust” on a film ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico, chief cameraman Hutchins was fatally injured on October 21 and director Joel Souza (48) was hit in the shoulder. Baldwin, who is working as a leading actor and producer on the film, had fired the gun during rehearsal for a scene. Investigations revealed that there was a real bullet in the Colt. An assistant director admitted that he had not strictly followed the safety precautions and only incompletely checked the weapon.
The gun master, who was the focus of the investigation, also spoke up and denied allegations of negligence on the set. She had “no idea” where the live ammunition found there came from, the 24-year-old told her lawyers in a letter from which several US media quoted on Friday (local time).
Local sheriff Adan Mendoza had said about gun handling, “I think there was a certain carelessness about this set.”
