A picture in the brochure of the discounter Aldi Nord has led to a large number of offensive and racist reactions on social media. The retail chain reacts – and blocks users on a large scale.

A man and a woman stroll through nature in outdoor outfits. An image that can be seen every day in many forests – and currently also in the current one Aldi Nord brochure for calendar week 44. The discounter uses this photo to advertise the sale of fleece jackets and vests. Now the photo is causing an uproar on X (formerly Twitter).

Retail chain blocks user accounts on X

Some users react to the skin color of the models depicted with racist comments and insults. Aldi Nord drew conclusions from this and blocked numerous accounts. The company confirmed this in a statement. “The tone of the statements is almost exclusively discriminatory and sometimes racist. We do not accept such comments and condemn them in the strongest possible terms,” said Aldi Nord.

The retail chain decided to take action itself and block accounts because the platform operator X was not taking sufficient action against hate speech. In addition, she decided to limit the comment function on her posts.

Aldi Nord wants to display contributions

We are always ready for a constructive exchange and criticism within the framework of a democratic discourse. “However, this ends when the dignity of other people is violated and they are insulted through hate speech. We reject any form of discrimination,” says Aldi Nord. The discounter would also like to bring criminal charges against the authors of those insulting or inciting posts, whose contents constitute criminal offenses.

On X, users blocked by Aldi Nord are outraged and are calling for a boycott of the branches. In response to a request from star Aldi Nord has not yet commented on the boycott calls.
