Alan, a young Frenchman, disarmed the Dublin attacker

INFO BFMTV – Alan, a final year student at Bazeilles high school, in the Ardennes, was the one who disarmed the assailant and perpetrator of the Dublin attack on Thursday November 23.

Alan, a final year student at the Bazeilles hotel high school, in the Ardennes, was the one who disarmed the Dublin assailant who attacked several people with a knife on Thursday November 23. He incapacitated the attacker in front of a school and was slightly injured in the hand and face. He has been in Dublin since October during an internship in a restaurant.

A total of five people were injured during this attack, described as a “serious accident” by the Irish police. The injured are a man, a woman and three young children.

The young man, contacted by BFMTV, said he threw himself at the attacker, taking his arm which held the knife. After disarming him, he threw the knife on the ground and remained nearby while other people immobilized the assailant while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.

According to an account from a witness to RTE media, the attacker was disarmed by two people, including Alan.

“Another man took the knife and put it aside” so that it could be handed over to authorities, said passerby Siobhan Kearney.

The young Frenchman was congratulated by telephone by Emmanuel Macron and the Minister of Education Gabriel Attal. For his part, Allan considers that he did what had to be done at the time.

Scenes of chaos

Just a few hours after the attack, clashes broke out in the city, with unrest quickly attributed to the far right. They stormed a neighborhood where there is a large immigrant population, against a backdrop of rumors about the origin of the potential attacker.

The Irish Prime Minister strongly denounced these riots. “These people claim to be defending Irish nationals”, “they are endangering” the “most innocent and vulnerable”, he told the press. “They are a shame to Dublin, a shame to Ireland, a shame to their families and themselves.”

On Thursday, the police made 34 arrests on the sidelines of these riots. The head of government promised to “punish those involved” in this evening’s clashes.
