Aiwanger’s Alliance for Reason – Bavaria

Munich, December 22nd. Shortly before Christmas, Bavarian politics is shaken by the planned founding of a new party. On Friday it became known that the association “Alliance Hubert Aiwanger – For Reason and Common Sense eV (BHA)” was registered at the Landshut District Court at the end of August. The founding chairman is therefore a “H. Aiwanger” from Rottenburg an der Laaber. Deputy Prime Minister Hubert Aiwanger (previously Free Voters) explained that he knew who was behind the matter, but that it was “not my style to snitch on people.”

Susann Enders, the general secretary of the Free Voters (FW), said she could neither confirm nor deny a “BHA founding party conference on January 13th from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Laabertalhalle in Rottenburg.” The FW is “by no means a one-man party,” emphasized Enders. “But of course we would accept certain changes to the party name, structure, program and personnel if Hubert wants that.” The Bavarian Digital Minister Fabian Mehring wrote on Platform X that he has been “a free voter with heart and soul for many decades.” From now on he will put the “same 150 percent identification and passion” into the service of the BHA.

Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) announced that he wanted to continue “our stable Bavarian coalition,” “regardless of what Hubert’s group is called exactly.” He sent Aiwanger 25 questions about his new party: “The answers are interesting, also orthographically interesting, perhaps a bit pubescent at times. But we managed to build new trust.” In addition, according to Söder, Aiwanger made verbal commitments to democracy and the gender ban at his urging: “Especially when it comes to the gender ban, there is no residual doubt whatsoever.”

Söder also congratulated Aiwanger on being awarded the Bavarian Constitutional Order, which the Deputy Prime Minister will soon receive because he prevented the distribution of an anti-Semitic leaflet as a student. Aiwanger thanked Söder for his support and called for the removal of ZDF presenter Diana Zimmermann as head of the ZDF capital studio “completely independent of coalitions and orders”.
