Aiwanger: Wind turbines fit well into the forest – district of Munich

Bavaria’s Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger (free voters) is considered a committed friend of wind energy. And so the minister is pleased about the decision made on Monday by the committee for energy transition, agriculture and environmental issues of the district council to get wind turbines in Forstenrieder Park and in the Hofoldinger and Höhenkirchner forest on the way. The district of Munich will therefore create so-called zoning concepts for the three state forests, which will be used to check at which locations wind turbines can be implemented at all. The respective working groups (Arge) will continue to advise on the number of rotors, the height and efficiency as well as the reasonableness for nature, animals and people.

Aiwanger makes it clear that he expressly welcomes the commitment of the district of Munich to wind power in Upper Bavaria. “The district council and the citizens of the district of Munich have my full support,” writes the minister. “I hope that the local people, the municipalities and the local economy will benefit from suitable models for citizen participation.” Forest areas in particular would be suitable for the construction of wind turbines, more rotors could be realized there than before, according to Aiwanger, and the habitat of people and nature would not be impaired. What’s more, ecological niches often develop under wind turbines in forests that previously did not exist in forest monocultures, and forest owners would also benefit financially from the rental income, according to the minister.

Up to six wind turbines are currently planned in Forstenrieder Park, up to three turbines are planned for the Höhenkirchner forest and up to four turbines are under discussion for the Hofoldinger forest. However, no project is finalized yet.
