The district administrators in the Lower Franconian Spessart and the mayor of Aschaffenburg, Jürgen Herzing (SPD), have been working towards the establishment of a biosphere region in the northwestern tip of Bavaria for several years. They expect this to be a boost for the districts of Aschaffenburg, Main-Spessart and Miltenberg and the city of Aschaffenburg – economically and socially, but also in terms of protecting the valuable oak forests in the region.
