This was announced today by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the EU Health Authority (ECDC). announced on their website. The obligation to wear mouth and nose protection will then be lifted, but it is still recommended to wear a mask voluntarily.

With the abolition of the mask requirement, one wants to adapt to the current situation of the pandemic, according to the statement. These include the currently high vaccination rate and the general spread of immunity to the corona virus in the population. “From next week masks will no longer be mandatory in all cases of air travel, broadly in line with changing public transport requirements from national authorities across Europe,” said EASA Managing Director Patrick Ky.
The new regulation is scheduled to come into force on May 16. Nevertheless, airlines can still stick to their own rules and recommend wearing a mask.
