Airbus is presenting the “CityAirbus Next Gen” air taxi in Donauwörth – and a new test center at the same time. A corresponding number of politicians came, from ministers Bernreiter and Aiwanger to mayors and district administrators.
If those responsible at Airbus have their way, the future of aviation begins this Thursday, right in Donauwörth. “You will be able to tell your grandchildren about it,” says Airbus Helicopters boss Stefan Thomé in greeting. However, the future is not yet flying: it is here. The rotors extend into the hall on the left and right like long, yellowish-green arms. But in between, in the cabin with the windows still covered, people will later sit down – and then buzz electrically through the air. Emission-free, autonomous and cheaper than with classic aircraft, at least that’s what Airbus imagines.
