Three days before the first round of the regional elections, Laurent Saint-Martin, deputy for Val-de-Marne and leader of LREM for the Ile-de-France region is the last guest of the BFM Paris program “Political Paris “, In partnership with” 20 Minutes “. Safety, youth, ecology… We take stock of the candidate’s main statements.

Lifting of health restrictions

Like many Ile-de-France residents, Laurent Saint-Martin appreciated removing his mask on Thursday in the street. “We are returning to an almost normal life,” he rejoiced, while warning of the need to “remain cautious, vigilant” so that the British example does not happen again. On the other hand, the deputy is not in favor of making vaccination compulsory, even for certain professions in contact with vulnerable populations. “If tomorrow, the advance of vaccination does not allow collective immunity, and that in certain cases it had to be done, it will then be the decision of the president”, he qualified.

Ecology

Two days after the announcement by the mayor of Paris to pay for parking motorcycles and scooters, the LREM candidate for the regional denounced a “punitive ecology”. “Why always tax rather than support in the ecological transition? He asks. The candidate proposes that the region take over part of the financing of electric vehicles: between state aid and that of the region, individuals would only have to pay for a third of the vehicle. A measure that he claims to have costed 120 to 150 million euros per year, while recognizing that the owners of the most polluting vehicles will be a priority. “Air quality, if it has a cost, it is priceless”.

Safety in transport and around high schools

Security is not a competence of the region, yet it is a key issue in these elections. Laurent Saint-Martin proposes the creation of a regional police force, competent in particular in public transport. “We can not manage transport without taking care of their peace,” he insisted. For questions of “efficiency”, he pleads for Ile-de-France Mobilités to be “the first coordinator” of these police forces, in conjunction with the police headquarters. It also announces the hiring of 500 agents, deployed in particular in the trains. “We have a too static response to insecurity while delinquency in public transport is mobile” A measure he estimates at 80 million euros.

The other security aspect of his program concerns high schools. He intends to strengthen the security brigades of these establishments, set up by Valérie Pécresse. “You don’t just need physical presence but also mediation. “

No increase in the Navigo Pass

“We can do without the increase in the Navigo pass,” said Laurent Saint-Martin. And to clarify: “This will require relieving congestion during rush hour. This involves teleworking, the development of third places near the home and urban planning.

Emergency income for young people

The LREM candidate described as a “bad decision” the drop in APL decided at the start of the five-year term. “There are young people who are suffering, we have to help them. I offer an emergency income for young people of 500 euros per month before they can start a training or employment process, ”he said. This measure, which he describes as a “financial boost to get back on track”, aims to ensure that the most precarious “do not give up”.
