After the discovery of an aircraft bomb from the Second World War in Schweinfurt, the dud is to be defused on Saturday afternoon. To protect the population, the area within a radius of 500 meters around the site will be cleared. From 12 p.m. the streets in the area were closed, and the main station should also no longer be accessible from then on, as announced by the city of Schweinfurt. Rail traffic will be completely closed in the afternoon, it said.
The bomb was found on Friday evening on the premises of a logistics company on Ernst-Sachs-Strasse. According to the police, the bomb weighed around 500 kilograms, about twice as much as initially assumed. The evacuation area was therefore extended from the original 300 meters to 500 meters.
