She is cute the heroine of Ainbo, princess of the forestby Richard Klaus and José Zalada, but not only. Tree cutters and other exploiters of nature cannot imagine that his charming face conceals a relentless determination to save his forest from destruction.
“We wanted to show an almost apocalyptic reality by trying not to be too unpleasant. Animation quickly became obvious, ”explains Peruvian co-director José Zalada in the press kit. He was inspired by his own mother to create this 13-year-old heroine who enchanted the Annecy Festival where the film was screened this year.
A message and humor
Unpleasant, Ainbo is certainly not, quite the contrary. There is something galvanizing about this teenage girl’s determination. And its fusional relationship with nature gently brings a welcome ecological point of view. “This story came from our desire to offer a message to future generations,” insists the director. The youngest will be enthralled by the two comic springs of this animated tale, an armadillo and a very funny tapir, which will promote their awareness of the dangers for the future of the planet.
The splendor of landscapes wonderfully restored in drawing gives a surplus of poetry to this tale and makes it all the more cruel to see these wonders threatened by greedy humans. Ainbo, princess of the Amazon is a lovely family entertainment behind which lies a strong militant bias. It shows once again that animated cinema can completely disorientate itself while leading to healthy reflection.
