Aidenbach’s mayor died unexpectedly – Bavaria

After a boy was seriously injured in a fall near the Aidenbach town hall on Monday evening, Mayor Karl Obermeier, 68, immediately rushed to the scene of the accident to support the rescue workers. During the mission, Obermeier suddenly fell over. He died instantly, paramedics and emergency doctor could no longer help him.

Only a few days ago, Obermeier showed the SZ reporter his community, which has literally blossomed during his 15-year tenure. The community, which has 3,200 inhabitants, has an infrastructure ranging from a community and cultural center to an indoor swimming pool that many much larger communities can only dream of.

The opening of the festival about the fateful year 1706 in Aidenbach filled Obermeier with particular pride last Friday. Mainly because everyone here works so well together “to present the play about the greatest tragedy of the place”.

“It was never about himself, but always about the well-being of the community,” say his closest employees. The most important thing for him is that people are doing well, Obermeier said at the weekend. The popular mayor realized his visions with the help of a huge network and with great empathy.

“If you lie idly on the sofa, then nothing happens,” he said. That’s why he traveled tirelessly. In addition to his office as mayor, he also held a good 25 other honorary positions, including as chairman of the Donautal & Klosterwinkel tourism association. The cultural association Aidenbach wants to continue the festival on Friday and Saturday despite the death of Obermeier. “We’re playing for him, that would make him happiest.”
