“Star Wars: Ahsoka” is the title of the latest streaming series from the galaxy far, far away. Everything you need to know about the new show.

The next Star Wars series is here. Ahsoka starts on Disney+ on August 23rd. The miniseries from a galaxy far, far away brings fans of the Star Wars saga a reunion with the popular character Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson, 44). The former Jedi student of Anakin Skywalker, already known from the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-2020) and “Star Wars: Rebels” (2014-2018), can be admired in a total of eight episodes of her first own show. It starts with two episodes in a double pack. Replenishments will then be available on a weekly basis on Disney+.

This is what Star Wars: Ahsoka is about

Ahsoka is a spin-off of the popular series The Mandalorian. The show plays around the same time as the third season released in the spring of this year about Grogu and his foster father Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal, 48) – which means around seven years after “The Return of the Jedi” and over 20 years before the events of The Force Awakens.

Not too much is known about the plot of the upcoming “Star Wars” series. As usual, Disney and Lucasfilm are keeping a low profile here. However, “Ahsoka” continues the previous series “Star Wars: Rebels”, which ended with a veritable cliffhanger. Ahsoka Tano, Mandalorian Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo, 28) and Rebellion leader Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 38) will most likely go in search of missing Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen, 59) – hoping to find her old friend Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), who has also disappeared.

Those involved in front of and behind the scenes

The main role in “Star Wars: Ahsoka” is taken by Rosario Dawson, who has already embodied the character in the second season of “The Mandalorian” and in the series offshoot “The Book of Boba Fett” (2021-2022). Dawson became known at the age of 15 through the controversial youth film “Kids” (1995), and was subsequently seen in successful films such as “Men in Black 2” (2002) and “Sin City” (2005). She also took on a recurring role in Netflix’s Marvel series universe in shows such as “Daredevil” (2015-2018) or “Jessica Jones” (2015-2019).

Dawson joins Ahsoka in Ahsoka, which features credits from 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the 2020 DC film Birds of Prey: The Emancipation of Harley Quinn, and the third Fargo Season (2017) known Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Former model Natasha Liu Bordizzo, meanwhile, may be among the viewers of Netflix teen mystery series The Society (2019) or Tiger and Dragon sequel Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny ( 2016) to be known.

The evil side of the series “Ahsoka” is led by Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen, who embodies Grand Admiral Thrawn, a character he previously voiced in the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels”. Ray Stevenson (1964-2023), who died unexpectedly in May at the age of just 58, plays Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi who has switched to the dark side of the force. His student Shin Hati embodies the Ukrainian-born actress Ivanna Sakhno (25), who has already appeared in the action blockbuster “Pacific Rim 2: Uprising” (2018).

In addition, a certain Hayden Christensen (42) will again embody Anakin Skywalker and the great “Star Wars” villain Darth Vader. Christensen played Obi-Wan Kenobi’s student Anakin Skywalker in the prequel films Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith (2005), and returned to his most famous role in the 2022 miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi to see. However, by the time of “Ahsoka”, the character he embodied has already passed away, which is why viewers will probably only see him in flashbacks.

Behind “Ahsoka” is “Star Wars” mastermind Dave Filoni (49), who once apprenticed with “Star Wars” creator George Lucas (79). Filoni played a leading role in the animated series “The Clone Wars” and “Rebels”, and is responsible together with Jon Favreau (56) for “The Mandalorian” and the spin-offs to the successful series. He once invented the character Ahsoka Tano together with Lucas. Filoni has written the screenplays for all eight episodes of “Ahsoka,” and has also directed an undisclosed number of episodes.

Does Ahsoka Lead to an Upcoming Star Wars Movie?

“Ahsoka” is announced as a miniseries. The eight episodes should tell a continuous story, and not – as is often the case in the show “The Mandalorian” – one adventure per episode. A second season is currently not planned.

Showrunner Dave Filoni will be directing an as yet untitled “Star Wars” feature film in the future, which is intended to be the grand finale to the concurrent series “The Mandalorian”, “Ahsoka” and “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” (not yet released), and should bring the events seen in it to a close. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.
