Agreement on AI rules – business

Germany, France and Italy have agreed on a common position on the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the European Union. In a paper available to the Reuters news agency, the governments of the three largest EU states advocate that large and small providers should make binding voluntary commitments. “Initially, no sanctions should be imposed,” the paper says. However, if violations of the code of conduct are discovered after a certain period of time, a system of sanctions could be set up. A European authority should monitor compliance with the standards. Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) and Economics State Secretary Franziska Brantner (Greens) welcomed the agreement. The so-called trilogue between the EU Commission, the European Parliament and the EU Council, in which the 27 governments are represented, is currently negotiating how the EU should position itself in this new field.
